Access counselling and psychological care

Getting started

If you have received an offer of redress while living in Queensland and you are ready to start counselling and psychological care, or want to find out more about counselling or psychological care, contact the Redress Counselling Program Team.

To start the process, the team will need a few simple details from you such as your name, address and date of birth. If possible, it is also helpful to give some details about your National Redress Scheme offer of redress, such as the date you accepted your offer and your Redress ID number (found on your letter of offer).

You don’t need to share any personal details about your redress application, or the abuse you have experienced.

Any Information you provide is confidential and will be handled in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Queensland).

Finding the right counsellor or service

The Redress Counselling Program Team will talk with you about your choice of CPC provider—you may have someone you are already seeing or have previously seen, or you may want the team to help find the right redress practitioner for you. Whatever your circumstances, the team will listen to you and work with you to help find the right Redress Practitioner for you.

If you decide you want to change your Redress Practitioner, the team can also assist to do so.

Making arrangements

Once you choose a counselling or psychological care provider you want to work with, the Redress Counselling Program Team will confirm whether the provider is registered as a Redress Practitioner with the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety. If they are, the team will make arrangements for your sessions to begin. The team will let you and the redress practitioner know how many hours of CPC have been approved for the Redress Practitioner to provide to you.

Your Redress Practitioner will work with you to find a safe way to support your recovery from the trauma you have experienced.

The counselling and psychological care you receive is confidential.
